Your question prompted me to have rethink.Thanks for this. Do I still need to point pihole to a higher stratum NTP server even if pihole is running on the same device that utilises Chrony?You definitely should point to a higher stratum ntp server. Not to your localhost. Correct time is becoming more critical. For example if you login into web sites that require 2FA using a authencator app, login will fail if your PC time is wrong.Hi bls
...
pihole.toml config file has this entry:Does this need changing to the localhost IP since chrony runs on it?Code:
server = "" ### CHANGED, default = "pool.ntp.org"
I used to run a combined rpi ntp server with gps hat and pihole server. I recently moved the pihole server to it's own rpi. I have never used pihole's builtin ntp server functionality so your question confused me.
Pihole has its own basic ntp server which on a fresh install, is enabled by default. Unless you are installing a rtc or a gps module there is little advantage in using chrony or ntpd.
I would disable chrony, re-enable systemd-timesyncd and use the default pihole ntp settings
