Unfortunately, the suggestion didn't work(unless I did something different than what was intended). The config.txt file I sent pre-moderation was different. Either ways I put the config.txt file provided by you in my config.txt file and added the line "dtoverlay=piscreen,speed=18000000,drm" at the bottom as you suggested. The pi starts up and shows the screen like it did before but the touch is still not working. The pi also shows "Failed to load 'initrd.img' - initramfs disabled" and frequently reboots on its own. On a side note my overlay is waveshare35a not tft35a and I tried with that as well but it doesn't work. So yeah like I said, the issue persists that the screen shows everything properly but the touch doesn't work as intended.
fbcp is still called in ~/.bash_profile as mentioned in waveshare's instructions for setup. Did it have to be removed in your setup procedure and did the DRM VC4 V3D driver have to be enabled(uncommented)? Neither were done in the mentioned results.
