Sadly I did try the OTH adapter and that did not work. Even more sad is the fact that my soldering skills are limited, I might just detach the HAT and use a usb hub instead. I know this will work as I have a third pi zero without a HAT and things work the way I want to using a hubthey are both using the same usb port, so they would conflict and prevent everything from workingOne other question I would have is that if I were to plug the external ssd directly into the micro USB port, should that make a difference even with the HAT attached?
but as a test, you can try just an OTG adapter without any device, and that may fix it
but soldering a pull-down on the OTG pad would solve it permanently
