Automation, sensing and robotics • Re: How to control Shelley Plug S from RPi4 via Bluetooth?

I read through the site information and am mildly confused if the existing switch still works. I was reading some posts/notes that said that the shelly needed to be ON for the switch to work and others that it works in parallel so that the switch can control (in this case) the light even if the Shelly is in the "OFF" state.
To be precise, the "shelly 1" needs to be wired in the wall. The relay contact can be wired in parallel to the existing switch, resulting in an 'or' of remote control and the existing switch. Or relay contact can be wired in series to the existing switch, results in an 'and' of remote control or the existing switch.
Another option is to connect the switch to the input of the "shelly 1" which allows some more options, like propagating the switch events to MQTT and build control software remote. Or tie the switch event internally in the shelly to the relay. See the docs of this device.

If main use case is to prevent freezing in the room, then using the existing switch in parallel to the "shelly 1" would be optimal.

Whatever you decide, be sure there are two wire N, L to the existing switch (same requirement as for Leviton D215S). And observe all safety rules when working with mains !
