thanks for this info but it does not really help me all that much. The PicoUPS-100: This micro UPS system automatically switches between DC input and battery backup, ensuring uninterrupted operation of connected devices. While primarily focused on providing continuous power, it can be integrated into setups requiring safe shutdown functionality
Sixfab UPS Hat
Designed for Raspberry Pi applications, this UPS Hat can detect the absence of car power and switch to battery backup while sending signals to the Pi for a clean shutdown. It can also be configured to boot up the Pi when car power is restored
You probably looking for an in-car power supply like the Xenarc PSU-PC12 unit that includes sophisticated startup/shutdown controller designed for the Xenac Mini PCs. It automatically powers on the connected devices when the car ignitions is turned on and shuts it down when ignition is turned off.
The above info should help allow hep you refine your search for a solution. You are look for a in-car UPS like device that can power down and up based on the signal from ignition key.
as i have mentioned i already have a rpi3b running in the vehicle and safely powering down/up when key is turned on/off using the ability to turn on the pi3 by grounding gnd and gpio3.
but this same procedure does not seem to work on the pi400 with the same effect - i.e i cannot turn the pi back on, i can power the pi up by bringing global_EN to 5v but not via gpio as for some reason the bootloader seems to not pay attention to the config value thats meant to enable that option
the pi would be powered all of the time as it is powered via a dc to dc supply (rated to 3a) built in to the control board of the screen i am using which is powered from a permanent fused battery+ so i only need the gpio to trigger it to shut down/start up
